Overall our experience has been positive . We saught vet advice due to a change in our dogs health and the vet was fantastic with our dog . At the time we were advised the symptoms may self resolve and therefore were sent home to monitor for a few days . The vet explained the rationale , what he believed was wrong and what to monitor for whilst at home . Unfortunately our dogs health declined and we had to make the decision to put him to sleep . All communications via telephone were compassionate and informative , I arranged an appointment for the euthanasia with ease and we attended as planned for the euthanasia . On attending we were shown into a room and awaited the vet. We were asked to move rooms and our dog slowly made his way into the final room . All staff were on hand to support him if needed and all gently stroked him as he walked past , it was heart warming and I know he was happy to get the attention . We then went into the room and a sedation was suggested as he was so unsettled he wouldn’t stay still for iv access . The sedation worked quickly and it was soon time for the vet to gain iv access . Unfortunately it took 3 attempts to gain iv access . Our dog was unaware of it all thankfully , the euthanasia was then administered with our consent . The first dose was given uneventfully , the second dose unfortunately ended up all over my mum as the syringe was not connected properly . Although this did not cause any clinical harm it added to our very distressing time . My mum was advised to rinse the solution off and whilst doing so the rest of the medication was given to our dog and his heart beat was confirmed absent . This was verbally confirmed upon my mum turning round to return to his side . Overall his care was good but I feel a few adjustments could have been made to ease the distress experienced by my mum and I . We were asked to say when we were ready for the medication to be administer - I appreciate this is a legal requirement however feel being asked “ do you consent to the euthanasia being administered now “ or “ are you ready for me to give it now “ would be more gentle than me feeling responsible for saying “ do it now” . We were escorted out the back to avoid the waiting room which was thoughtful however we passed many canines recovering from surgery which was emotionally distressing . I also asked for information regarding the cremation and where the ashes would be scattered, the vet was unable to tell me however the reception staff were very helpful when i returned to collect paw prints . I recognise the challenges this kind of consultation brings however feel an information leaflet or the staff being forthcoming with such information rather than me having to ask would be appreciated . I am a practical thinker most likely due to my own line of work but I know some people may not think to ask some of the questions I asked or know that they can obtain such information . Again I’d like to reiterate the care was not bad I just recognised areas in my own experience that could have been better . Our boy is at peace now and I recognise the importance of his quality of life.

Wonderful practice. We are so happy to have switched here when we got our new puppy. All the staff are just lovely, and we absolutely love our vet, Aleksandra, as does Ginny! :) Thanks for taking such great care of her!

Very poor vet. Spent thousands over the years and I absolutely believe profit is their priority over standard of service. Only 1 vet out of 6 ever explained any costs during the appointment, most just go ahead and then you find out the price at the reception. We had multiple conditions undiagnosed after thousands spent. They also made so many mistakes with billing, always in their favour (charging us double the quoted price ‘accidentally’) I have waited 6 months to leave this review until we settle at a new vet and make sure we’re not the problem. However since moving I’ve been delighted with our service and transparency from the new team. Really gutted we spent so long with Mackie & Brechin.

Fabulous veterinary practice. Lovely reception staff and the vets are so very nice too. They made the saying goodbye to Jamie so much easier. We also received a lovely card in the post addressed to the family. How very thoughtful.

Such a great team of people. The receptionists are always so friendly and are great with our dog. I called for advice on an upset stomach this morning, I was a bit concerned that I would be wasting their time but the team could not have been more helpful in getting us an appointment before they closed for the weekend. Michael was absolutely fantastic with our dog, explained everything very well and really put our mind at ease.
