About us

We built Vet Verified to make choosing a vet easier.

Pet owners can struggle to tell which veterinary practice suits their needs or offers good value. Vet Verified helps them compare practices and gives veterinary teams a place to explain the care, expertise and services they provide.

We built the directory we needed.

When our Hahn’s Macaw, Bobby, became ill, we needed to find an avian specialist who could support his diagnosis and long-term treatment.

There are more than 5,000 veterinary practices in the UK. Comparing them can mean searching several websites to find out which services, facilities and accreditations each one offers. Lead-generation directories may also give paid listings more prominent positions.

Vet Verified brings those details together. Practices earn verification by meeting clear criteria. Payment does not affect the result. Listings explain credentials in plain English so pet owners can compare practices more easily.

What it means to be Verified.

Practices earn the Verification tick by meeting three criteria. We award it only after we have checked all three.

    We check the RCVS register.

    Before we verify a practice, we confirm that it appears as a current UK veterinary practice on the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' public register.

  2. 02

    We explain accreditations in plain English.

    We describe the accreditations a practice has earned in language pet owners can understand.

  3. 03

    Someone at the practice manages the listing.

    A named person at each Verified practice is responsible for keeping its details up to date. We contact the practice directly about its listing.

We do not have a marketing department or call centre. The people who write the website also build the systems behind it.

Vet Verified was founded by a small UK-based team. Philip is a designer and engineer with more than 16 years of experience building business and consumer products used by millions of people. Joanne has spent her career in project management, helping large organisations turn complex technical information into clear, accessible experiences for customers.

We found it difficult to tell which practices had the right expertise and credentials. We are pet owners, not vets, and Vet Verified does not replace professional advice. It brings together recognised public registers, accreditations and awarding bodies to help pet owners make informed choices.

What we don't do.

These principles shape how we verify practices, order search results and handle pet owner data.

  • We don't sell the top of the search page.

    Verified practices rank above unclaimed listings because practice ownership increases the reliability of the data. That is the only ordering rule. There is no “featured” tier and no paid placement.

  • We don't run advertising on practice profiles.

    We do not place competitor adverts or banners on practice profiles. We also do not use “people also looked at” links to send visitors to whoever pays most.

  • We don't sell the Verification tick.

    Practices pay a fee for verification checks and account support, but a practice must still meet the criteria to earn the Verification tick.

  • We don't sell pet owner data to practices.

    What practices a person has looked at is their business, not ours.

  • We don't auto-renew a practice's verification.

    We review every practice and check its credentials each year. If a credential has lapsed, we email the practice and give its team time to renew before changing the public listing.

What we're working on.

These are our three priorities for the next 12 months.

    We are working through the UK’s RCVS registrations so every registered practice has a basic listing ready to claim.
