Our last appointment with Dr Larkin was amazing. My dog doesn't always behave but we managed to get him more relaxed. It was a nice professional talk, treatment and well worth the time. Thank you

I had to make the awful decision to put my elderly cat to sleep, when I booked the appointment (through my tears) I misheard the day! I turned up on the wrong day and the very compassionate staff fitted me in there and then, I cant praise their kindness and thoughtfulness enough! I've recently moved to this vets practice and (although an awful first visit!) I am so pleased I've joined them, thank you all so very much x

Went in as new clients with, for us, an emergency with one of our dogs. We were immediately put at ease, our dog was thoroughly checked out, given what was required and we feel much happier now. First class service!

Best vets in LIncolnshire - been with them for nearly 50 every time we have lived locally we come back with all our dogs (durung working years often posted in other parts of the country). Superb reception, nursing and vetinary teams during all that time.

My dog is registered here and yesterday I unfortunately had to take my parrot in as he clearly wasn’t well. We managed to get an appointment with one of the avian vets and he was outstanding. My parrot was slightly sedated and had an X-ray and bloods taken within twenty minutes of us being there. The vet’s expertise and knowledge was just superb. I didn’t get the gentleman’s name but he was one of the best vets I have ever seen. Kind, compassionate and clearly concerned about my African Grey. We are currently waiting for the results but after a cocktail of antibiotics my parrot already seems a lot better already. Fingers crossed for a good outcome. I just wanted to post to let everyone know how wonderful James Street Vets are. We are new to the area and are very, very pleased. Thank you!☺️

It took me ages to decide upon a Veterinary practice, when relocating from South Yorkshire to rural Lincolnshire with my three cats and my little flock of hens. In all fairness, there are lots of practices to choose from, many with great Google reviews, so how can one be assured to have made the right choice? Price is often the deciding factor. However, hindsight can be wonderful thing: I’ve learned the hard way that being cheap at the start often leads to paying more down the line. Ultimately, if you truly love your pets, investing in a good vet is just as essential as finding a good paediatrician. I am so glad I went with the James Street Vets in Louth. They’re a good 30-minute drive from where I live, and I don’t have a car, nor a propensity to throw money at taxis. Nevertheless, they are simply worth it. They genuinely are that good. From the Reception team, who always take your call, email you in a timely manner, and ring you back if they’d so promised (no matter how crazy busy their days may be), to the Vets themselves, who amass an abundance of knowledge, skill, experience, and care. I know, I know, this is starting to sound like a paid advert or something. But it truly isn’t. They’ve never even hinted at my leaving a review, nor do they know that I’m writing this one. If my heartfelt gratitude can be ‘targeted’ at someone in particular, that would be Dr Chilita Lau. Her extensive experience with exotic pets has saved my little flock of hens from Necrotic Enteritis this autumn, and I’m now fortunate to have received an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment for Mycoplasma. Most people, who may own more ‘traditional’ pets, will never know the struggle to finding a good Vet experienced with chickens. When urgency hits, and your hen is ill, it’s like the whole world is collapsing around you. I feel so immensely fortunate to have found a caring, empathetic human being in Dr Lau, who has been going above and beyond to help me and my feathered babies. I honestly have no intention of ever swapping to another Vet practice!

“The Royal College of Veterinarian Surgeons (RCVS) current code makes it clear that animal welfare should take the highest priority. At James Street Veterinary Centre (‘JSV’) that code appears to have been inverted...the business function has been allowed to dominate its compassion functions to the detriment of animal welfare and the professional integrity of staff. As inquiry Chair Martin Coleman documents, vets and vet nurses regularly face unacceptable abuse from frustrated pet owners. Unfortunately, if the attached evidence is anything to go by, the rancid state of the sector evident at James Street Veterinary Centre makes such confrontations all but inevitable. The sense of powerlessness the current regulatory framework essentially promotes betrays animals, owners and professionally minded staff alike. Vets appear entirely subservient to the Business Manager’s priorities and will. …[I got] very little sense that qualified staff were free to offer independent and impartial advice….Animal welfare appears an incidental detail to vet and non-vet staff alike, a number of whom [as identified] appear only too happy wasting their lives allowing blameless animals to suffer needlessly just so they can feed off the grotesque ‘magic money tree’ this sector has become. As is clear from the Competitions and Markets Authority’s (CMA) Provisional decision report* and the RSVC’s own ‘Serious professional misconduct and negligence explained’ document, the level of real world accountability in such places is negligible...The current regulatory environment has allowed contempt for animals and customers alike to become institutionalized...I doubt many of the staff I met at James Street Vets are even consciously aware of that fact.” Summary of document I submitted to the CMA inquiry into the Supply Of Veterinary Provision 10th November 2025 based on my experiences of James Street Veterinary Centre during the period May to July 2025. * “Effective regulation is essential and the current regulatory regime, set up in 1966, is not fit for purpose. It applies to individual vets but not to the businesses in which they work and therefore fails to regulate the part of the system that gives rise to the greatest concerns…” - VETERINARY SERVICES FOR HOUSEHOLD PETS Provisional decision report: Part A “When an organization is insulted from competition it invariably ends up serving its own needs not those of its customers. It loses touch with the real world. It surrenders its ability to absorb feedback and to adapt. It becomes brittle and defensive. Then, when the crisis comes, as it always does, the consequences are disastrous.” David Frost [writing in the context of the ongoing BBC scandal] The Daily Telegraph Tuesday 11th November 2025.(pp 4)
