After a really stressful week trying to find help for our 6-month-old Copper Maran hybrid, Ruth, who had a severe impacted crop, we honestly felt like we were running out of options. We had already been to another vet who didn’t really understand chickens, and the situation was getting worse by the day. After a lot of searching, we found NorCal Veterinary Services and spoke to Kathriona Vagg. Even though they were due to close at 4pm, they told us to come straight in and stayed open late so we could get there from over an hour away. From the moment we arrived, the difference was clear. Kathriona immediately understood how serious the impaction was and explained that it couldn’t be flushed or drained due to how severe the blockage had become. She made a quick, confident decision to operate there and then. Within just over an hour, the surgery was done under local anaesthetic and the blockage was successfully removed. We brought Ruth home the same day, and her recovery has been incredible. What really stood out, on top of the obvious skill and professionalism, was the level of care and trust. They carried out everything without hesitation and simply trusted us to settle payment later. That kind of dedication and compassion is something you don’t come across often. After struggling for so long to find someone in the UK who truly understands poultry, it was a huge relief to finally find someone who clearly does. If you have chickens and ever find yourself in a difficult situation, I honestly can’t recommend NorCal Veterinary Services enough. You genuinely saved her life.

We were so happy to find NorCal vets. We had a poorly chicken, miss Eggatha Christie, and despite not being registered to NorCal we were seen within an hour of an enquiry call. Alex was great. He gave Eggatha a full examination, medication/treatment and some comfort which she lapped up. 24hrs later and she has perked up so much. We felt listened to and felt settled with all the help and advice Alex gave. Thank you. Mel was wonderful handling our initial call, and and as we finished our visit. A lovely welcoming person and so helpful. Thank you for the help, it is lovely and refreshing to find a veterinary practice like NorCal. Im sure you'll meet the rest of the brood soon enough.

Catriona kindly came last evening and again today (Saturday) to treat our Pygmy Goat with likely bladder stone. It was clear he was beyond help and she put him down very kindly and also v efficiently. Much appreciated. Thanks.

So helpful and professional even though we are not clients. Evan really went the extra mile to support with our poorly cocker spaniel. Just wish the Norcal service could be extended to include domestic pets - but great to know that there is an outstanding local independent vet for the farming community.

I took my Brahma Hen to the practice just before closing, The Vet On duty Evan, was incredible. My hen had peritonitis and had to be put to sleep. Never an easy decision to make but the care she received was exceptional. Thank you. I would highly recommend this practice :)

Amazing vets and service. They have visited my filly twice for urgent care as well as once planned & were fantastic for each visit. Also very reasonable cost.
