In August 2025 my five-year-old Dachshund, underwent emergency spinal surgery (IVDD, T13-L1) at Voo Vets Surbiton. I am sharing this review because I believe other pet owners deserve to know about our experience before entrusting their animals to this practice. Despite being promised daily calls and photographs during hospitalisation, updates rarely came unless I chased them. On multiple occasions I received photographs showing my dog lying in soiled bedding. His nose became red, raw and bleeding — consistent with him trying to avoid the mess — pointing to inadequate nursing supervision. I was also called in twice to hand-feed him chicken because he had refused to eat, which raised further concerns about the level of care and engagement he was receiving. Following discharge, he still displays new fearful behaviours — recoiling when approached or lifted — that were entirely absent before his stay. Three months later my dog developed the same symptoms and required a second, more complex surgery at another hospital. Their MRI and surgical findings confirmed that a significant amount of disc material had been left behind from the first procedure, making the second operation considerably harder. The contrast in care was stark: despite a more complicated surgery, his stay was shorter, communication was proactive and consistent, and we received daily calls directly from his surgeon. Six months on from his second surgery, Frank is still in daily rehabilitation and has not returned to the fitness he had before August 2025. I believe the first surgery was not performed to an adequate standard, that the second surgery was preventable, and that the two consecutive procedures without adequate recovery time between them has been seriously detrimental to his long-term wellbeing. I submitted a formal complaint to Voo Vets in April 2026. They did not reply within the 14 days they promised and I had to chase them for a response. When it eventually came, rather than addressing any of my specific concerns, they simply asked me to agree to referral to the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS). I would caution other owners: despite being presented as an independent, impartial body, the VDS is in fact an insurance organisation that represents veterinary professionals — not pet owners. At the time of writing, the VDS holds a 1.8 star rating on Trustpilot. I do not consider this a satisfactory or genuinely independent resolution process. I have copied my complaint to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the regulatory body for the veterinary profession in the UK. I would urge any owner considering this practice for specialist or surgical care to reflect carefully on our experience.

Voo vets remain the best veterinary hospital you can confidently trust to handle your loved fur buddies. They have highly sophisticated equipments to run most accurate lab diagnosis, no prediction, only evidence based medicine. They have talented teams, Ecc, primary, and specialist teams all work together to keep the hospital running for 24hrs, 24/7, 366days. We have to give it to them. Any patient lost here would die earlier elsewhere, won’t survive, they give all their best.

I've been there this morning as my dog has an inflammation in the skin around her eye. I did mention that it seemed that her eye duct was blocked, causing an inflammation. The very young doctor took a picture of my dog's eye, spoke endlessly to basically say that she didn't know what it was, but that the first step would be to give ANESTHESIA to my dog (she's almost 13 and has heart issues), to get a sample to see if it's CANCER, but that nothing could be done today. I asked if she could give me a topic cream and anti inflammatories, to start with, she said NO. I asked if she could ask someone straight away, as they're a HOSPITAL, she said she couldn't. The receptionist was also very unpleasant and treating me like I was just making a fuss out of nothing. They charged me over £60 for nothing. I booked another vet somewhere else, also a young guy, he said that he thinks it's a blocked meibomian gland, gave me eye drops with steroids and antibiotics on it, and booked me to see him again in a week. If it doesn't get better, he'll then think about checking for something more serious. Why do you employ vets that are so unprepared to do the obvious? Also, your water bowl was dirty and barely had water on it. You guys could do so much better, starting with firing the vet that has no idea what she's doing there (obviously just charging us clowns for nothing).

Cannot praise this vets enough for the care and compassion given to me and my fur baby. From walking in and having to make the toughest choice, they did everything and more to support me. I am eternally grateful especially to Ezra who made Obi so comfortable.

Please read all of the reviews for this surgery before even considering taking your beloved pet to them. I wrote reviews for this practice 10 years ago and they were consistently taken down, they were simply in it for the money and the current reviews show the same. Don’t go near them.

I wouldn’t recommend this vet to anyone. I took my 5 year old lab to Voo on a Saturday evening as an emergency. He had developed very sudden lameness in his front leg and was in a lot of pain. I had emailed over his medical notes prior to the appointment as he has osteoarthritis and elbow / hip dysplasia. We were kept waiting for what seemed like ages and when we were eventually seen by the consultant she told me she had read 1 page of his medical notes as “she couldn’t possibly read all 45 pages”. She did suggest keeping him overnight but I wasn’t keen on this so she suggested I take him home with Gabapentin - a medication I already had. When I questioned if this would be enough to help his pain she told me that “he wasn’t that bad” and “he would be fine” I was up all night with him and the next morning I called again explaining that the swelling in his elbow and leg was much worse and hot to touch and he wasn’t eating or drinking - he was deteriorating very quickly and the Gabapentin was doing nothing for his pain. I was told that if I brought him in again, they would only give him Gabapentin due to his “complex medical history” - a history that they hadn’t read! I wasn’t sent the clinical notes from the visit (I only received the notes when I phoned to complain a few days later). The notes state “to seek immediate medical attention if swelling worsens, becomes red or warm or if systemic signs develop”. But this critical information was never mentioned to me during the consultation. When I called on the Sunday I was told that the vet on duty had been fully updated on my dogs condition by the Saturday vet yet when I explained his worsening symptoms, they didn’t think it was a medical emergency despite what was stated in the notes. They just didn’t seem to care at all. It was awful just watching him deteriorate and be in so much pain My dog actually had septic arthritis and he nearly died. I wish I had read the reviews before taking my beloved dog there.
