Losing a pet is always painful but witnessing my partner lose her best friend of over a decade, was heartbreaking. Initially, the vets did a good job with the euthanasia but then the heartless act of effectively sending an out-of-office response type email with the bill. Not, sorry for your loss or is there anything else we can do for you? Just "here's your bill, due in 30 days" Despite making contact, she was just ignored and then pressed for the remainder of the balance as if they'd become debt collectors. In conclusion, if you use horses for work and don't care less, then they're a good fit but if you love your companion, I would recommend using a differnt vets which actually has a soul.

Wouldn’t recommend at all - were very unsympathetic when I had to have my horse put to sleep. Hit me with over a £1k bill via an automated “dear valued customer” email less than 24hours later. At a time you expect compassion, this vets did the complete opposite. Would give 0 stars if I could due to this treatment I received from HQ. The on-call vet who carried out the procedure was very good, but I’m not sure that she was a Sussex Equine employee.

Everyone was so kind and caring at such a stressful time. We received so much support and advice for how best to get our daughter's horse through being poorly.

Unfortunately I am updating my previous review because, despite Sussex Equine Hospital replying publicly and inviting me to “contact the practice,” they have ignored me yet again. I contacted them exactly as they asked, resubmitting my complaint through their official channels, and have still received no acknowledgement, no reply, and no follow-up of any kind. There are numerous times they have knowingly completely ignored my attempts to resolve the matter privately. My original concerns remain unchanged: – Additional MRI scans were carried out without my consent – I received no updates during my horse’s stay despite being promised them – My horse was returned to me distressed and in severe pain, without the hoof pads they said he needed even for short walks – I was told “nothing was found” on the MRI, yet the report (which they failed to send) clearly showed issues – My complaint has been ignored for over a year I have now raised the matter through the RCVS process because it is clear that the practice is either unwilling or unable to handle complaints professionally. I am devastated that this is the standard of care we received, especially as my horse has since passed away. Perhaps the extra charge for the unauthorised scans could have gone towards something to have kept him comfortable. But we will never know. Never tell this practice you’re using insurance, they’ll drain it for all its worth. I’m sharing this so that other owners can make an informed choice and so that, hopefully, no one else finds themselves in the same position.

I cannot thank the team at Sussex Equine Hospital enough for the amazing care they took of our pony Olaf who needed surgery for Colic. The communication we received daily when he was in recovery over the weekend was great. We could visit anytime we liked it was never an inconvenience. Olaf was able to return home 6 days post surgery and the they were on hand if we had any concerns re his after care. Sussex look after all our horses at the Riding School and they are an essential part of our horse well being team. We have a regular once a month clinic for routine procedures and a dedicated vet Kyle Lowery who knows our horses and always has a polo for them which they look forward too!! The back office and reception team are quick to respond to enquiries raised. Cannot fault the service Sussex Equine provides us.

We are so grateful for the care, attention and patience of Vet Maddie, who supported and treated our precious Wig's, who is soon to be 32, during a major rescue when he fell into a ditch and got himself cast. We could not believe what we were facing. The Sussex & Surrey Animal Rescue along the Fire Brigades from Horsham and Ripley were just an incredible team, with Maddie managing all of Wig's needs immediately on her arrival and until she was totally satisfied he was out of sedation and walking it all off. Wigs was a lucky boy that day, with Maddie as his vet in a true emergency situation, we were assured all the way through. Thank you Maddie, your kind, knowledgeable and calm approach made the difference to us all that day, especially Wigs, and how you partnered with the Emergency Animal Rescue Team was amazing. Thank you again for your concern and care, it is genuinely so appreciated, you were just incredible xx

I feel incredibly lucky to have Susanna as our equine vet. From routine checks to more complex cases, she brings a calm, confident presence that puts both horse and owner at ease. Her knowledge is outstanding, and her passion for equine health is evident in everything she does. Susanna doesn’t just treat symptoms—she takes the time to understand the whole picture. Whether it’s an early-morning emergency call-out or a routine vaccination visit, she’s reliable, professional, and always kind. Our horses trust her completely, and so do we. She explains things clearly, offers thoughtful advice, and never rushes through a visit. It’s rare to find someone so down-to-earth yet deeply skilled. Susanna goes above and beyond every single time
