I don’t write, many reviews, only when I have a poor experience or an amazing experience. Therefore I’m writing this cause we had an AMAZING, EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. We recently took our 15-week-old puppy Mochi to Davies Veterinary Specialists to have a fractured tooth extracted, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the whole team was incredibly welcoming, professional, and reassuring. A special thank you to Rob Davies, who performed Mochi’s extraction. His care and expertise were truly impeccable. He took the time to clearly explain the procedure, answered all our questions, and made us feel completely comfortable and at ease. It even seemed like Mochi took an instant liking to him, which made the experience even more reassuring for us as owners. The procedure itself went very smoothly and was completed quicker than we had expected. Just a few hours later we were happily reunited with Mochi, and a nurse carefully talked us through all the aftercare instructions and what we needed to do once we got home. Everything was explained clearly and patiently. We’re incredibly grateful for the care Mochi received. The whole team at Davies Veterinary Specialists were fantastic, and they truly deserve a big congratulations for the level of service and compassion they provide. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing specialist veterinary care.

One year ago today we lost our beautiful French Bulldog, Tyson. He was only four years old. This is the review I haven’t had the strength to write until now. We admitted Tyson to Davies after days of worsening symptoms not eating or drinking, lethargic, shaking, panting and clearly uncomfortable. The only thing that helped were anti-sickness injections, even though he wasn’t being sick. Within minutes of having them he would brighten, eat, drink and seem like himself again, but it only lasted a few hours. We were told it was likely stomach related. From the start I repeatedly asked them not to keep sedating him. French Bulldogs are brachycephalic and are known to have compromised airways. Sedation and general anaesthetic carry significant risks. Despite this, he was continually sedated. During one scan he turned blue. Instead of reconsidering, he was given a general anaesthetic. Every day I raised concerns and was told his panting and shaking were anxiety that he needed it. Meanwhile, he deteriorated. I even made a formal complaint while he was still hospitalised, specifically about the amount of sedation. while we were on that call, he was sedated again. He went into respiratory arrest and had to be resuscitated. He was moved to ICU and we were told he had a collapsed trachea. We later learned his stomach symptoms were likely secondary to undiagnosed breathing problems, and that the anti-sickness medication helping him can be used off-label to open airways, something that should have been recognised and considered earlier. The repeated sedation and anaesthetic we had begged them to avoid ultimately exacerbated his airway issues and finished him. we sat beside our four-year-old boy in an oxygen tank and made the most heartbreaking but humane decision to let him go. Tyson was not just a dog. He was family. He trusted us completely, and we trusted the professionals caring for him. We are left traumatised and grieving, living with the regret of those four days. If you have a French Bulldog or another brachycephalic breed, please ensure you are with true specialists who fully understand the respiratory risks these dogs carry. We will carry this loss forever.

We took our cat to Davies as he had tooth resorption so our vet referred us. We had a consultation in the morning and were given the information needed. The vet called us when he was under anesthetic to let us know of the situation after having done and x-rays. In the end they had to remove quite a few teeth but he has been recuperating well and was already eating the day after. We asked them to put through the claim to our insurance so only paid the difference as we reached our max claim. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer team of people to look after our sick dog Ted. Everybody was so lovely from the first moment we walked in to reception when we were scared and worried, to the moment we left with him after his few days of treatment. As owners, we were kept well informed at all times, allowed to visit at times to suit us and felt that he was in the best and most caring hands possible. Although it was tough whilst he was staying with them, and not at home with us, knowing that he was safe, happy and being well looked after certainly made it easier. Thank you to everyone.

Our dog was referred here by our local vet for his skin allergies and it has been life changing for him. In less than a year he has gone from a sore, itchy boy with bald spots all over to a relaxed, happy boy with almost all his hair back. I highly recommend Davide, he has been so thorough with the treatments to find the option that works best for our dog.

My dog was referred to Davies as an out of hours emergency after a fall. He damaged his spine and had lost the use of his back legs. As you can imagine it was a very traumatic time for us but as soon as we were in Davies care we felt better and that he was in the right place. He had amazing care throughout, the neurology team were superb, they kept us informed every step of the way during his stay and we felt confident they were doing the absolute best for him. He moved on to the Therapy and fitness centre at Davies and we have had excellent care from them too. They enabled us to bring him home and continue his physio ourselves. He is improving all the time now and we have had superb care from everyone at Davies throughout, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My border terrier was referred to Davies for root canal surgery as we needed a specialist. After referral, I was contacted quickly by Davies and they took the time to find a suitable appointment that worked around my work schedule. I had messages to confirm the appointment. On the day, everyone I interacted with was polite, friendly and very understanding of my many questions. The veterinary surgeon did our consultation and talked me through the full ins and outs of the surgery so I knew what might happen and what the options were. I really appreciated this level of detail. Rigby was well cared for and the discharge process was very smooth. Lovely site with plenty of parking and a dog walking area, so was really easy and reassuring to visit. I paid for treatment on site and submitted my insurance claim the next day - Davies must have sent documents over to my insurer efficiently as the claim was paid within the week. I also very much appreciated this as it helped so much financially not having to wait a long time.
