Our dog was admitted to the veterinary hospital after suffering from persistent vomiting, loss of appetite and a fever. During the first day, the vet who treated him was caring and reassuring and by the end of the day felt comfortable discharging him to return home. Unfortunately, after returning home, his condition deteriorated significantly. By the following day, he could barely walk or jump. We took him back to the hospital, where a different vet was clearly very concerned and advised us to prepare for the worst. We understand that veterinary professionals often have to make difficult decisions and that financial constraints can affect treatment options. However, what we struggle to understand is why our dog was discharged on the first day when we were later told he had been in considerable pain. We were also disappointed to be charged for a second X-ray because the first one failed to identify the problem. Sadly, our dog passed away after what appeared to be a very painful experience. While we appreciate the efforts of the staff who cared for him, we genuinely believe that his suffering may have been reduced and potentially the outcome changed, had he remained under veterinary supervision after the initial visit. This review reflects our personal experience and the heartbreak of losing a beloved family member.

I recently took my 11 week old kitten to the Braid Vets Hospital on Mayfield Road in Edinburgh for his first visit and am very impressed! A safe, comfortable and calming environment is provided for both pet and owner and the staff are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and very efficient. I have every confidence and highly recommend.

I would never go to any other veterinary practice, and I've seen them all in Edinburgh, our pets felt the most comfortable at these guys hands, I was able to visit my dog when he stayed in, I've been updated regularly, knowing your pet is in hospital where everyone treats animals like their own is priceless. This veterinary has 24 hours service, and hospital in the same place gives a peace of mind. Absolutely the best vet we've ever been, seen, the ladies at the reception always helpful and what a happy friendly team, they sort out anything you need quick, the day vets are all friendly and highly professional. The emergency hours night and weekends hospital service (in the same place) is extremely helpful, quick, the emergency night vet Lucas and Struan with unbelievably high knowledge and the ladies at the desk are all professional, quick and always do their very best.

My cat has diabetes and unfortunately needed help to manage it. She is very challenging and I can’t thank the team enough. My friend was looking after her for me whilst I was away and they also kept me informed about her condition. I am able to call them for advice if and when I need to. Thank you so much everyone. Anne.

Great vets always treated our dogs well and staff are polite and friendly no hassles . I get a lot of reminders about health checks and appointments. Only giving 4 stars because quite expensive but that is true for most Vet practices. It is peace of mind that any out of hours emergency can be done on site.

Wonderful vet practice. Nothing is ever too much trouble . Indivualised care . Made to feel your pet is at the centre of every decision aspect of care. Gentle, high quality and compassionate vets. Ollie has been with them since a puppy. Wellness checks every 6 months .Due to recent emergency surgery abroad the practice facilitated we saw the same vet to ensure continuity of care which allowed detailed assessment of his neurological progress . They were absolutely outstanding throughout his rehabilitation. Always at the end of the phone to answer a concern at such an acute time . Wonderful reception staff too ! Thank you to everyone at Braids Hospital you make a real difference!

With five, and now four rescue dogs I have spent a lot of time at this practise and am always bowled over by the kindness and humanity shown by every member of the team here. They’ve taken the time to get to know the pups and given them space to feel less scared, which is a big thing for these traumatised wee souls. They’ve also been hugely supportive to me, helping me navigate and nurture the dogs through some pretty huge medical scares. I really can’t recommend Braid Vets Mayfield enough.
