I am writing to formally raise serious concerns regarding the level of care and professionalism at the Barkingside branch of Goddard Veterinary Group. I have attended this practice multiple times with my cat. In December, she was treated for a rash and a lesion on her thigh. Antibiotics were administered and the lesion was expressed. The issue did not resolve. When I returned in February with the same unresolved symptoms, the initial recommendation was to repeat the same antibiotic treatment that had already proven ineffective. It was only after I questioned this that diagnostic testing was suggested at an additional cost of £200, with no guarantee the issue would be identified and further costs likely to follow. This raises concern as to why diagnostic investigation was not considered earlier, particularly given the lack of improvement after the first treatment. Repeating unsuccessful treatment before investigating the root cause appears neither proactive nor cost-effective. Each consultation costs approximately £60, and multiple visits without resolution quickly escalate expenses. I was told treatment is delivered “in stages” to make it more affordable; however, repeated consultations and ineffective treatments do not reduce cost — they increase it, while prolonging distress for the animal. When I raised reasonable questions about the clinical approach and costs, the vet’s attitude changed noticeably and became defensive. I was made to feel uncomfortable simply for seeking clarity. Mentioning that I would obtain a second opinion was also met with defensiveness, which I found unprofessional. An independent vet subsequently assessed my cat and recommended addressing the root cause directly. The contrast in clarity and decisiveness was significant. My concerns relate to repeated ineffective treatment, delayed diagnostics, escalating costs, and unprofessional communication. I will be raising this matter formally with head office and expect it to be taken seriously. In my OPINION goodard have a lot of overhead cost they must meet before any sort of treatment can be given to your animal. This is how I feel taking my pet to barkingside. After discussing this with other pet owners I have been given similar experiences they have had with goddards.

I found this vets to be very kind, understanding, friendly and caring when dealing with a stray cat I recently helped, who needed to be neutered under the new £10 scheme for strays. They also gave me plenty of useful advice regarding his other health issues. There wasn't any hesitation in helping me with Fig. He was by all accounts very well treated.

This practice has serious issues with transparency, pricing, and basic professionalism. I called about putting my dog to sleep and was met with a rude, cold, and dismissive attitude. There was no empathy at all, despite the nature of the call. I was quoted £134 plus £94, which is £228, yet I was then told the total would be around £300. When I questioned this, I was vaguely told there were “additional” or “hidden” costs, but no one could clearly explain what they were or why the numbers didn’t add up. The lack of clarity was shocking. Worse, this is not a one-off. I have been overcharged here before, again with extra fees that were not explained upfront. Only after treatment do these costs suddenly appear. This feels misleading at best and exploitative at worst, especially when clients are emotionally vulnerable. When dealing with end-of-life care, people deserve honesty, compassion, and clear pricing. This practice repeatedly delivers none of that. Based on my experiences, I would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious or go elsewhere.

Outstanding Care and Professionalism! I’m incredibly happy with the service at Goddard vet in Barkingside. My pet recently had an operation, and I couldn’t believe how smoothly everything went. The procedure was done so professionally – you can’t even see a mark on her body! The vet and the entire team were kind, caring, and truly experts at what they do. They made sure I felt informed and reassured throughout the whole process. My pet is already back to her happy, playful self. I’m so grateful for their amazing work – I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who wants the best for their furry friend!
