I took my dog to Vets for Pets as an emergency after she became suddenly lame and in pain. The vet carried out only a very brief check and quickly pushed for sedation and X-rays without properly examining her leg or paw. I was charged £973.64, yet no diagnosis was made. The X-rays showed nothing. After bringing her home, she was still in discomfort. On closer inspection, I found a visible wound with pus at the exact site of pain — something that should have been picked up during a basic physical examination. Instead, the issue was missed and masked with painkillers, while I was advised to wait two weeks. Paying nearly £1,000 without a diagnosis, while an obvious problem was overlooked, is completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise others to question expensive procedures if a proper physical examination has not been carried out first. UPDATE: Following my original review of Vets for Pets, I submitted a formal complaint regarding Arya’s treatment. While this complaint is still ongoing, I have: - Had my follow-up email ignored - Been contacted by phone instead of receiving a written response - Received repeated messages chasing payment and pushing me to complete finance arrangements This is despite being previously told in writing that my account would be placed on hold until the complaint is investigated and resolved. Chasing payment — even for a small remaining balance — while an active complaint is unresolved is completely inappropriate. This, combined with the original issue of paying £973 without a diagnosis while an obvious problem was missed, has significantly undermined my trust in this practice. I would strongly advise others to ensure thorough examinations are carried out and to be cautious about how complaints are handled.

I’m not sure who I spoke to on the phone on Tuesday night but she was absolutely wonderful, calming me when I was upset my cat had her tail stuck in the door and speaking with kind words. Once I arrived at the vets, I was seen by a lovely lady (who I did not get the name of) but she was absolutely amazing also, treating both me and my cat with care even though she is an absolute terror when she is at the vets and refuses to let them near her. She walked me through the steps she was taking to try and examine her and what she advised after, both her and the lady I spoke with via the phone are absolutely fabulous and deserve nothing but positive feedback from me !

Amazing caring staff after I lost our cat, so friendly and caring I couldn’t have had a better experience whilst my heart was distraught. I would recommend this vets over and over again. It feels like they shared your emotions and was so empathetic. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart you made the experience so smooth and handled the rest whilst we were heartbroken.

We have a dog, Freddie who is very nervous which on occasions can come across as aggression. Esther, for the last few visits has been extremely kind to Fred, sitting on the floor with him and allowing him to do things in his own time. It has made the world of difference to our visits and I can’t thank her enough. Outstanding care. Also a shout out to Laura on reception and Amy who have been equally as fantastic in their interactions with Fred.

I just used the out of hours service as I was concerned that my dog needed an x-ray. He was seen by Esther who examined him thoroughly & pinpointed the location of his pain. She really put my mind at rest answering all of my questions about how to manage administering his pain meds. If it was nearer I'd register with this practice. The waiting room is very spacious which is great for reactive dogs.

On the night of 23rd-24th September, my cat suffered a medical emergency. Unfortunately I had to make the tough decision to put her to sleep. However, despite the trauma and sadness of that night, I do need to acknowledge how helpful and supportive the vet, Sofia, was. She was very nice and understanding, answered all my questions, explained a few things more than once given that my head was in a strange place. She knew exactly when to let me be alone and when to be there for me. I am very grateful that she helped me navigate that night, and was so respectful and calm. Thank you for all the support, during and after, to everyone at Birstall, especially Sofia.

The vets here are actually amazing! They all know our little boy by name and genuinely show that they care for each and every animal. After a real scare with his health when he was a puppy, they nurtured him back to health after a 2 week stay in the hospital. Our Chester now adores coming to Birstall to see all the vets and nurses as they always make him feel so welcome and at ease to ensure that he doesn't suffer anxiety for his follow up visits. I cannot recommend them enough here, we wouldn't take Chester anywhere else!
