We recently found ourselves in the distressing situation of coming across a badly injured female muntjac lying on a country lane. She was clearly terrified, in shock, and bleeding badly. We knew she would be at serious risk of being struck again by passing traffic, so we stopped and carefully lifted her into the back of our truck. I tried contacting the RSPCA and another veterinary practice, but as it was a Sunday, the only option offered was to drive over 40 minutes to an emergency vet. Given the muntjac’s condition, this simply did not feel fair on her. Thankfully, I came across Melton Veterinary Surgery. Our call was answered immediately by a compassionate and caring lady who asked us to bring the muntjac straight in. When we arrived, we were met by both her and the vet — two genuinely kind and professional women who clearly care deeply about animals. They told us they would do everything possible to save her and explained that, if she survived, she would be transferred to a wildlife rescue centre where she could recover before eventually being released back into the countryside. They kindly took our number and later updated us. Sadly, her injuries were too severe and the difficult decision had to be made to put her peacefully to sleep. Finding such a badly injured animal was extremely upsetting for us, but knowing she was placed into such compassionate and capable hands brought us real comfort and eased some of the sadness. I cannot recommend Melton Veterinary Surgery highly enough. The kindness, professionalism, and care they showed to a wild animal — outside normal working hours and with no obligation to do so — says everything about the practice and the people who work there. Thank you so much to everyone at Melton Vets.

I have read most of the reviews but can only comment on my experience with the cvs group. Everyone needs to remember that this is a corporate company and prices will be high. As a dog owner all my life I would not let anyone that doesn’t care for animals with the compassion needed to do such a stressful job anywhere near my dog. All the staff at the cvs group across three of their practices that I have dealt with during the operation of my German shepherd Storm have been absolutely fantastic. Their compassion and empathy has been first class. Special thanks to Claire who operated, Caryl on reception at cliff lane, the reception and nurse staff at Melton for the pre op and Fran for always being on the end of the phone with total support and reassurance. You should all be proud of how you are getting storm through this operation and keeping me calm at the same time. Thank you all.

This vet practice is not interested in the animal it is only interested in how much money it can fleece from the pet owner, they'll charge you hundreds of pounds for xrays, blood tests etc. That are not needed, Don't Use Them.

The worst experience of my life resulting in my kitten dying, I took my kitten in with suspected intussescption, vet did not listen to me but instead did a rectal exam so rough my kittens rectum was left open and bleeding, so much so my kitten had to stay in over night incase she needed surgery to correct the injury the vet had caused, The next day my kitten died in my arms from the intussescption, avoid at all costs

I’ve waited about a month to write this review because the experience was so upsetting. I had to take my French Bulldog to the out-of-hours vet on a Sunday after she suffered a fit. The vet was dismissive from the start—she said it was impossible to get a proper heart reading due to the breed’s breathing, then abruptly took her away to try oxygen. When she returned, she again blamed the breed, making judgmental comments and saying we shouldn’t own “this type of dog.” There was no compassion, no sensitivity—just a rude, unprofessional attitude that left us feeling judged and distressed at an already emotional time. It felt like a total waste of money and, more importantly, a failure in basic empathy and care.

I work next door to the vets. The staff are so lovely, I've found a few injured wildlife cases that they have helped me out with! Always willing to have a chat about any advice needed and always have treats for your pets available! They take their time with each case and even do little goody bags for children in the school hols ❤ every customer I've spoken to is always singing their praises, from excitable bouncy puppies to anxious animals to end of life care, they genuinely love the pets they care for.

Melton Vets are a quality vet surgery. The staff are really approachable, friendly and professional. It’s easy to find and they have an emergency out of hours service, but note that there is obviously additional cost for this service. Vet fees align with most vets in the area, but note that they provide prescription letters which enables you to buy drugs for your animal at a much lower price.

Thank you so much for the care of our beautiful Whippet on Sunday evening. He’s our entire world, but we knew he was in safe hands being left in your care for a few hours. He’s back to his normal self now, thanks again.
